Resistance is Futile...

I saw this gem while searching for a toy pattern on Lion Brand's website.

i gasped as I saw this:

ACK!!!
ACK!!!

OMG.  it's a hideous crochet hat!  Doesn't it look crazy???  my first thought was....The Borg Queen

The Borg Queen
The Borg Queen

I guess the simliarities really lie in the facial expression.  But can't you see some nut crocheting this hat so the Borg Queen can keep her slimy bald head warm? hahahaha

If you really want that hat pattern...here it is.

And to head off in 2008!

I'm unspeakably relieved that despite a significant amount of searching I couldnt find Christmas Crocheted Fug.

I looked. I found some really darling pieces that made me wish I had more time in my life but.. hey..

What I did find.. and it produced a number of mixed reactions when I saw it, was this:

a hat apparently (get this.. it's a bargain at 3,000 pounds!!)

It's a Hat. It may LOOK like a sea anemone or the hyperbolic crochet reef.. but it's a hat. For 3,000 pounds???

It looks vaguely biological.

And painful....

And if anyone feels that they could make this and give it to  their significant other/partner/sweetie/husband (darling or otherwise) and not have it surreptitiously fed to the dog/cat/budgie, please give it a go, and send the photos!

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and are looking forward to a fugfree (in every way!)  New Year!

"Oinga Floinga" Hat

Does the video speak for itself? Thought so.

Thanks to one of our readers for sending this one in -
please don't poke your eyes out while watching it.

P.S.:  A couple of comments already asking if this is real -
seems to be!  There are more videos of more hats where
this came from AND a custom hat will run you $1,000 US!

Bronx Bag

"A crocheted Bonsai bag is adorned with bobbles galore" -
quoted directly from the site. Bobbles galore...ya,
that's exactly what this looks like.

Thanks to one of our readers for sending this one in!

Luxury Hood

This looks like torture not luxury -
for both the wearer and the crocheter.
Love the "what I'm wearing sucks"
smirk on the model's face too.

Easy Bead-As-You-Go

Who exactly would wear this bright red thing on the front?
Doesn't it look a bit like a doily of some kind? None of
the other designs are particularly appealing either.
This is the kind of stuff that gives crochet a bad name.

Free Form Fall Hat

Just because you get to see all
sides of the fug (wait for it to rotate)
and because we haven't chosen anything
off "Amazing Crochet" for awhile.

They never seem to let us down
everytime we visit for a submission.

"Cool" Crocheted Hat

This one just makes me giggle - not sure if
it's the model's expression or the hat -
they both take the proverbial cake.

Funky Felted Granny Bag

No matter how you dress the model, the oversized
granny square won't be "funky" or "urban chic".

Furry Fingerless Gloves

Can you believe those are fingerless
gloves? Yikes. It looks like some
sort of caterpillar hopped up on
steroids swallowing her hands.

Yes, yes the scarf is pretty
bad too but I'm not sure what's
worse in this circumstance.

Fur Ever Elegant Wrap

A pink bow? Seriously? And all that fur
with a scraggly design too? Ugh.

Sunday, December 24, 2006

What is it?

A neckwarmer or an earwarmer?
Trying to sell it two different ways
doesn't make it better. Yikes.

Hat of Horns

Um ya, because most crocheters like horns sticking
out of their hats. I particularly like the expression
on the girl with the green hat on - that says it all!

Granted, this pattern comes from
the Anticraft! website but please.

Thanks to everyone who sent this one in!

Chained Woven Wrap

Is that tree tinsel I see hanging off this thing? Just because you can chain something doesn't mean you should pick garbage out of the bin and chain it.

I Can't Believe It's a Purse

It's all about the purses lately. Free form ought to be banned. Ya, "no rules, no gauge" is the best idea ever especially since this is the end result.

Flower Strewn Clutch Purse

Strewn? How about thrown-up on? The colours are horrid and the flower placements make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Definitely not for someone to carry around or maybe it's meant to go with a clown suit. Some of the flowers have some really odd shapes to them too...like the one in the lower left corner...what does that remind you of? :|

Thanks to Heidi from Germany for this submission!

Fox Tail Ponchos, Purses or Wraps

A Bernat pattern book...all based on "a love affair with fur being timeless". Yup, that's what I said...timeless! Not sure how fur and fake fox tails made from yarn goes together. If you aren't sure about the cover design, I've included another just for good measure.

Funny how the second model looks rather petrified too...probably wishing the shoot was over so she could throw that wrap and purse in the corner and run for her life!

Thanks Erin for this submission...it's a good one!

Medallion Scarf

This thing is just plain wrong - so wrong. Just what sort of puke-y green colour is that anyways and why on earth would someone want some big huge "medallion" on their scarf?

Just where did the concept of appropriate width for scarves go? Seems her entire torso is covered by a scarf.

I think I'm going to hide now - this thing looks like it's about ready to engulf her head and I might be next.

Gourmet Lisette Sweater Shawl

Lacy pineapple crochet? Doesn't this look like the designer grabbed her Granny's doily off the table and wrapped it around her shoulders and made it seem like it might be a shawl? And what is a sweater shawl exactly? I don't see anything "sweater-ish" about this shawl at all - it's just "doily-ish". Leave the doilies on the tables folks! That's where they belong! All those huge ruffles in the front too - what kind of effect does that really have except to add bulk to the wearer? I bet it gets caught in everything too.

Not a shock they couldn't find a live model to showcase this item - only the mannequin had no idea what was actually being worn. I bet all the live models ran in the other direction when they saw it.

Christmas Tree Wraps

What do you make of this wrap? It reminds me of Christmas tree tinsel. Just what kind of yarn is that? I'm not even sure how it's crocheted?

Stylish? Well, not so much...more like Christmas-y. It really should be wrapped around a tree as garnish to get the true effect it's looking for.

The model's big toothy grin won't distract us either...and neither will holding out the shawl to make it seem like it's actually nice.

I wonder if she got tangled in it at all either putting it on, holding it or taking it off?!
