What do you make of this wrap? It reminds me of Christmas tree tinsel. Just what kind of yarn is that? I'm not even sure how it's crocheted?
Stylish? Well, not so much...more like Christmas-y. It really should be wrapped around a tree as garnish to get the true effect it's looking for.
The model's big toothy grin won't distract us either...and neither will holding out the shawl to make it seem like it's actually nice.
I wonder if she got tangled in it at all either putting it on, holding it or taking it off?!
And I'm not at all certain if changing the colour would make any sort of dent in the fug on this one. . .

Sniff, sniff. Makes me nostalgic for smelt fishing with father and grandfather...a Chicago spring tradition for many people. This would have made an awesome net!
ReplyDeleteThe smelts would swim through those holes in central Ontario - got to get DH to take us to Chicago some spring. The model in the picture is likely saying to the camera person "could you help me untangle my hand. My hand is caught somewhere in there and I need help to get it out!"

Wow, I am unsure how I stumbled across this site, but I am soo happy. I have seen so many things that should never be crocheted, and I love to crochet. I never say anything ever so I won't hurt anyone's feelings. An item like this one would probably end up in my children's dress up box.

This piece of crap also begs the question: what's the point? Wraps are supposed to help keep you from getting chilly. I think the model could squeeze through one of those holes if she tried hard enough.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, Crochet Me! can do no wrong, Hil, in my opinion. Okay, they can do wrong, as your post clearly proves (I remember thinking WTF? when they posted it) but it is always forgivable. Crochet Me! is generally a better publication than those one buys off the wrack.
ReplyDeleteThe Giant Snowflake is one of their few fugs and you mustn't hold it against them. And it's really not a bad pattern - it would make a cute Christmas table-runner-substitute for instance. It's just that the designer misjudged it as being *wearable*.
